Full-time Working Mother of 2 Completely TRANSFORMS her Body!

Full-time Working Mother of 2 Completely TRANSFORMS her Body!

Before and after (4)

Hey guys!

It’s been a while since I’ve done a Transformation Tuesday but I couldn’t let this story slide by. I found Veen in the Blogilates App and her gorgeous smile stopped me mid-scroll. Today’s story is one about a mother of 2, with a full time job, pursuing her degree on the side. I mean – you can’t get much busier than that. But Veen found the time to take care of herself and transform her body amongst the madness. She used the Blogilates 12 week #NewBodyMakeover meal plan (free with the Fit Journal) to make sure her diet was on track. Here’s her story.

MY BACKSTORY

Veen here.

Quick background on me – I’m from Singapore. (One day Cassey has to come here and do a mass class! There are so many POPsters here too!) I’m 28 this year and I have 2 amazing kids, a 3.5 year-old girl and a 12 month old boy. I work full time as a Marketing Manager in a theatre company and I’m also doing a part-time degree.

Before (2)

I found Cassey by chance while surfing the net and I read all the comments from others about her videos. I actually went on this journey with a friend, Diyanah. We motivated each other and constantly updated each other on our progress. She has lost some weight too and follows the Blogilates videos and meal plans as well.

My friend, Diyanah and I Before and after

I started Feb 10 and since then I have lost a total of 16.4kg, and am down 3 dress sizes. I used to be an XL, now I can fit into a size M nicely. I started off at 77.3kg and I’m 169cm tall. I’ve lost much more than what I targeted initially as it is now part of a regular lifestyle for me. I don’t find it a chore or a pain really, it’s just a part of my regular routine.

Progress from Feb till June 14

The main motivation and reason why I wanted to do this was that I was getting big, the hugest I have been since like ever after the birth of my son (he was born June 2013). I started this journey when he was 8 months old. The breaking point and when I finally had enough was when people kept giving up their seat to me in the train like on a daily basis as they thought I was pregnant. I had comments from people who knew me like, “oh you are expecting again?”.

Before

So many times that it got me mad and I knew I had to do something about it. I’m so glad I found Cassey. Her encouraging writing style in her blog, her soothing voice, it got me going. I drank her fruit infused water and tried some of the recipes (which are so awesome). I also love to dance and now I have incorporated Zumba once a week. I feel stronger and I have more energy.

HOW I MAKE IT WORK

It sounds crazy having to wake up at 5.45am to exercise but it’s not. It’s really surprising that even by waking up that early, I don’t feel tired or lethargic the whole day, I feel more energized. I still wake up in the middle of the night, 2 times a night actually for my son’s milk feed as he still can’t sleep throughout the night. Even then, I don’t feel tired. I truly enjoy doing the Blogilates workouts. Even the “simple” mat work requires lots of strength and it makes me feels stronger. I especially love it when I wake up sore the next day.

Of course I’m only human and there are some days when I’m just way too tired to wake up earlier to exercise like the nights when my son is a having a bad night and can’t sleep well. I will allow myself to skip a workout as I know I deserve that extra hour of sleep after staying up at night to care for my son. I will make up for it by taking the stairs instead of the lift or escalator during the day and will squeeze in some squats in the shower. I believe small things like that help too.

As for food preparation, I will whip up the next day’s lunch at night after tucking in the kids to sleep. I’m also taking my part time degree amidst all this. The number of assignments are crazy. I plan my schedule according to the kids sleeping schedule. I usually work on my assignments when they are asleep and my husband will accompany me.  After going through this, I then realise that you don’t need any quick or fast solutions, just sheer dedication and will power and you can do anything. Family support is important too. It works! It’s all about balance in life.

FUN Q&A with VEEN

1. Fave Blogilates workout?

I love all of them but my favorite fave will be DANCE WITH ME ABS. Man the last part of the song makes me wanna scream! Love it!

2. Fave healthy food?

The Blogilates 2 INGREDIENT PANCAKE. I look forward to breakfast all the time. I will add on all sorts of fruits and top it up with Peanut Butter and Greek Yogurt.

banana pancakes

3. Fave YOLO food?

MAGNUM ALMOND ICE CREAM. My absolute weakness. When I crave it, I will share it with my husband. I don’t feel so bad and it’s kinda romantic right?

magnum-ice-cream-shy

4. Snapshot of your daily meals:

Breakfast will be oatmeal with all sorts of fruits or eggs or your pancake. Lunch will be grilled chicken/fish/meat with salad or wraps. I’m Indian so I need my spice. I will usually marinate my stuff with chili powder, tumeric powder and all a dash of Mrs. Dash as Cassey recommends. Dinner will be similar. I snack in between meals on fruits, almonds, plain greek yogurt with fruits. I drink lots and lots of water. Main thing for me that really works is that I have stopped eating white rice which is the biggest challenge being Indian, you basically eating anything with rice. But I’ve stopped that now. And completely stopping on sweet sugary drinks makes a world of difference too. I will have a cup of green tea in the afternoon too with no added sugar when I’m feeling stressed at work. Helps a lot too.

5. Your fave quote?

I love Dr. Seuss and I tell my children this constantly. “Today you are You, that is truer than true. There is no one alive who is Youer than You.” – Dr. Seuss

Cassey, personally from the bottom of my heart, THANK YOU!  You have to know how much you have inspired so many girls and women out there, all over the world. I feel really happy that I am able to inspire others who have a similar life situation as me. Wishing you all the success and please don’t ever stop what you are doing! 🙂

Veen! What a lovely story. You really demonstrate what it means to know what you want and go after it, no excuses. I am completely honored to have you as a POPster in this community. Also, your kids are beautiful just like their mommy! I know that a lot of people reading this will now have more motivation to go out and push their limits a little bit more 🙂

Guys, please show Veen some love and support and follow her @veen_nish on Instagram!

And if you want to submit a story, please post them in the Blogilates App or use the hashtag #BlogilatesTransformation on Instagram so I can find you! You can also send stories to POPsterPost@gmail.com.

Have a beautiful Tuesday!

<3 Cassey

SINGAPORE REPRESENT! This is actually really encouraging for me because I totally understand how difficult it can be for Veen to change her diet when faced with so many delicious (but very, very unhealthy) dishes. They don’t call Singapore a food paradise for nothing! We’re quite literally surrounded by sinful, greasy, salty and sugary foods and there are so easy to get compared to cleaner, healthier alternatives (we’re no LA, Whole Foods needs to come to Singapore, stat). I have started to make better choices over the last four months and I feel great. I no longer feel tempted by chicken rice, hokkien mee, char kway teow, fried carrot cake and the like. And OMG white rice. I’m Chinese and giving up white rice was hard. It’s HARD at first but it can’t be done. So my dear Singaporean POPsters, don’t give in to the call of the hawker centres and night food markets! Y’all can do it!

And YES please come to Singapore, Cassey. There are SO many POPsters here! <3

Your story is so inspiring to me personally. I have been struggling with some of the same challenges you are dealing with. My son is 4 months older than yours. I have been trying to find the time to fit everything in with working and kids, but now, after reading how you make it work, I am going to try getting up that early to workout. I keep missing workouts b/c something always comes up in the evenings. I am not a morning person so I know it will be tough in the beginning but in reading your story, i think this is the key to my success. Thanks 🙂

  7. Tara says:

Amazing job! Indian food is one of the most fun to “clean up” with all that great flavour!! You look fantastic.

I’m 29 years old, type I diabetic, and have been working out in the gym and/or taking aerobics classes since I was 11 years old. I started doing kickboxing when I was in 11 and moved into the weight room and onto the tread mill at 15. Since then, I’ve done the traditional weight lifting, tread mill, Zumba, and step aerobics classes. My weight has gone up since graduating from college and working out is a challenge as I have to make sure my blood sugar is good so I can work out. Even when it is… the gym has just worn itself out. It seems like Cassy’s Blogilates has really been a blessing for so many different types of bodies. I’m ready to try something different.

Wow! this is really awesome. and that transformation is insane! i am nowhere NEAR this busy, and i really needed this to show me that my lack of motivation is no excuse. especially because being military, fitness is part of my career! thanks again cassey and veen for both of your inspiration. so glad i was shown your site.

  13. Chelsea says:

Thank you, thank you for this!! She’s just like me. I thought with two kids, work full time and school full time it would be nearly impossible for me to find the motivation to workout. I’ve been eating clean (mostly) and that’s been helping but I want to workout and it’s my biggest challenge. Seeing someone who has the same basic challenges as me is very motivating. My alarm is set for 5:30 am tomorrow.

Thank you Veen! You’re inspiring!! And thank you Cassey…I can’t wait to really start this time

    Much love to you!!!

  23. Sarah says:

WOW!!! I am a mom of two with kids almost the exact same age. What an inspiration. I’m great about exercise because I love it, but I finally decided to get serious about healthy eating this summer. It’s hard not to eat emotionally with so many demands on you as a mom, but your story has inspired me to keep up my commitment to not use food to cope with how tough it can be to take care of my crazy little cuties. I want to be a Transformation Tuesday too in a few months, so look out for me come fall! 😀

  24. Lacey says:

Hey Veen, I’m in Singapore too! Let me know if you’re ever up for a blogilates sesh together!! 😀

      🙂
      Veen

  25. Anna says:

What an inspiration!! Congratulations to Veen on your awesome accomplishments and journey. I work full time 40 hrs a week, and go to school online full time too. I was thinking of squeezing in daily workouts in the morning because I have hardly any time to eat dinner after getting home from work and then moving onto school work. I give you mad props for getting up so early and on top of being up in the middle of the night with your son. I have a hard time getting up at the same time to go to work, I’m gonna really try hard to get up an hour early to get those workouts in!

  26. Dani says:

    Veen, you are AWESOME!

Talk about serious hard-work and commitment! I’m stunned!

  27. Katie Tuttle says:

    Quite the inspiration! Bravo!

Keep going Veen and thank you very much for sharing your story with us. And thank you Cassey for being my beatiful torture 🙂

  37. Kathy says:

Veen, you are simply amazing!! You not only reached your goal but even more! I hope you continue this story strong and with that gorgeous smile on your face! you look so happy. 🙂

Your story actually made me get myself into working out today. I feel tired because semester is ending and nothing really works out right now. Teachers are coming up with extra work and things like “Next week we will talk about your grades” Can’t you figure out them by yourselves, honestly? don’t be so uncreative, teachers, you know I’ve done my best and I’ve swallowed down many mean comments by some persons which made it super hard to force myself still going to class on Monday.
Now after workout I feel sweaty but more content and balanced again (though it wasn’t the one of today but I did abs, butt, legs, so it should be right). gotta do some stretching now.
    good luck everyone!

  38. Veen, you look so amazing! That’s great that you kept pushing yourself to workout and maintain a healthy life. What a great inspiration!

  39. Vanessa says:

This is so amazing, I am so proud of you 🙂 You look great!! You’re an inspiration and I feel so motivated while reading your story. Thank you and congrats!!!

  40. Laurie Washburn says:

Great job! I especially love how she still wakes up at night to nurse her baby, even though he is a little older. It’s so good to see that other countries realize babies do not usually sleep through the night, but frequently wake to eat or for comfort. My favorite part <3

  41. Do we have to have a dramatic transformation ?

  42. johnna green says:

Congratulations! She looks great. I have a TT- my pilates client lost over 23 inches in a just a few months. She is also a working mom of 2- here is her story

What a gorgeous woman! She truly shows that being busy is not a valid excuse not to work out. Very inspiring!
And I love the dr Suess quote! I didn’t know it, but I’ll remember it from now on!

  48. Tess says:

Congratulations Veen! That’s an awesome story. I’m so impressed that you find the time with two kids, a job and studying at the same time. Makes me feel very lazy. You look fantastic and feeling healthy and stronger are always the biggest motivator for me to do exercise so I’m really happy to hear how much exercise has improved the way you feel. Well done!

  49. Michelle says:

Oh my gosh. You are amazing! You’re such an inspiration! Well done Veen! Your hard work and dedication totally pays off! That’s right, it’s all about balance. I don’t want to compare, but I only work casual and study at home and I don’t have kids, yet I have so many excuses!! Lol! Thank you, Veen, for sharing your story and helping me put things in to perspective. Keep on pressing forward and having faith, not just in your health, but in your school and personal life as well! You’re the champion!! Xoxo ~ With love, Michelle (Australia). 🙂
