When is the best time to exercise to burn fat?

When is the best time to exercise to burn fat?

Hey POPsters!

Have you ever heard that if you workout in the morning on an empty stomach you could burn more fat? It’s true scientifically – watch the video to understand why – but I actually have a different answer as to when you should workout.

Being here in London has been cool so far. Hanging around other YouTubers and being around the Google office has inspired me to be a better “YouTuber.” Haha. I suppose that is why I am making so many videos! I am so far away from home and my classes and my gym and my peeps that it kind of focuses me. Not that I don’t have ANYTHING to do…I still need to edit the DVD and develop the community etc. Oh man, can’t wait for great things guys! GREAT THINGS COMING YOUR WAY!!

Check out this vid on Creators Invading the Olympics. Do you watch any of these other Youtubers?

CROSSFIT RECAP:

I also have some sad news regarding Crossfit. Remember how excited I was about joining the classes!???

Yes. I was pumped. I went to my first class and loved it. Did a ton of pullups (assisted with a band), a bunch of overhead shoulder presses, and sprints only to find out that I needed to complete a series of beginner classes and graduate from that before I could take anymore “regular” classes. I was so so sad. They were pretty strict on the fact that I needed to either pay for personal training and get tested or do a week’s worth of beginners. I said I’d only be there for another 2 weeks or so and REALLY needed to get my workout in for the day and they said sorry, we need to make sure your form is correct so you should take the less intense series first.

Like, I totally understand for liability issues, policies etc. where they are coming from…but I’m gonna tell you the truth…I was a little offended. The guy who tested me just to make sure I knew what a pullup was and what a overhead shoulder press was begrudgingly let me take my first session since I was already there and he didn’t want to send me home. He also said, “I’m gonna keep an eye on you today. If you can’t keep up everyone and you become a distraction and it just becomes too chaotic, I’m gonna need to pull you out.”

I don’t know why he said that because I demonstrated the moves with good form.

At the time, I was like “Yeah yeah, cool, whatever!” But now after typing that, I feel like he TOTALLY pre-judged me. Wow. Not the first time this has happened though. I remember testing out personal trainers and they would ALWAYS give me baby weights. When I wouldn’t huff and puff they’d say, “Too easy?” I would say, “Yeah, you know, I think I can handle more.” I’m a little timid when it comes to asking for more weight from new trainers because for some odd reason I feel like it questions their intelligence and I feel bad? LOL.

It must be the fact that I am a smaller Asian girl who likes to wear pretty workout clothes so I seem all weak sauce. HA! Well not the case! We can “Train like a beast and look like a beauty” right ladies!??

So much to my dismay, I won’t be continuing the Crossfit lessons because I don’t have time in London to learn a new format. Maybe when I get back to the US at some point I’ll give it another go. It was great though. I liked it.

LONDON POPSTER MEETUP:

So I am thinking of doing our London POPster meetup next weekend August 4 or August 5. What do you guys think? And which park do you want to meet at? You’d just need to bring your mats. What time should we do it? Once I have a good idea, I will make an official invite and event for everyone with details.

Thanks everyone for being such wonderful students! Love teaching you!!

Have a fabulous day!

<3 Cassey

PS – yes there will be a new August workout calendar. Make sure you’re subscribed to the newsletter to get the pw when it comes out.

I really don’t like any veggies or rice aside from mushrooms, onions, peppers, and tomatoes. I also HATE whole wheat bread! I know im so picky 😉 lol How should I eat “clean”?

  2. Nicole says:

What’s a realistic amount of weight to lose in a month? Would 4-8lbs be ideal?

  3. Stephanie says:

The 4th is better for me but i hope to be there either day! :))

  4. Jame (@jameane) says:

What’s the best way to bust a weight loss plateau?

  5. Cassey, I’m dying dying dying to know about becoming a fitness trainer. Could you do a Vlog about that process and how it’s led to your Popilates business success? Pretty please?

  6. Never done CF, so can’t speak to that, but I definitely know what it’s like to be a small Asian girl and receiving tiny weights. Keep wearing those pretty workout clothes!

  7. Michelle says:

@Celina Thanks for asking that question! I was going to ask the same thing. I’m a picky eater too. I like veggies and fruits though, so that’s not normally a problem. I have trouble eating meat/protein…cause there isn’t much I like (that’s healthy). I know eating clean means no processed/fried/super fatty foods, but what are the options for someone who is pretty much vegetarian? Are protein powders, nuts/nut butters, and dairy clean enough and protein-packed enough?

And thanks for doing this video, Cassey! I’ve been wondering that for a while cause I’m definitely a morning person, but I work 9-5 and hate getting up too early. I always work out when I get home, but I’ve been worried I’m missing out on early morning benefits…glad I’m not!! Thanks!!! <3

    Hyde park or green park.
So excited for the meetup. Hope i can make it!

  9. Su-yin says:

Regents Park or Hyde Park is probably best I think! I hope it’s gonna be on Sunday Aug 5th as I can’t make it on the 4th! Can’t wait!!!

  10. Shruti says:

How I wish I could attend the meetup! and most importantly meet you Cassey 🙁
I don’t mind doing the travelling to London but I’m super busy the next two weeks. I can’t make it…arrggghh!I’m feeling horrible!!

  11. Kasia says:

I’d like to see a video about protein stuff and my question is: which protein is better – whey protein or soy protein? There are different opinions saying that soy protein is just not as good, because it is ‘plant’ protein that doesn’t come from diary products/animals.

    xoxo

    1. Beyza says:

That`s a question I wanna know the answer, too! How much and what type of protein should we eat after workout Cassey?

  12. Rebecca says:

Sunday morning would be the best time for me because I’m taking my students to watch the Olympics in the evening.

Hyde Park is huge, so we could definitely find a quiet spot, but any other park could work…

You’re in North London, aren’t you Cassey?

  13. Lea says:

Woooow London POPster meetup on the 5th of august?? this is so great!!! so excited!

  14. Cassey, Sorry you had a bad first CF experience, but from a former crossfitter he really wasn’t wrong to turn you away if you couldn’t commit to the intro classes. Beginner classes are essential at the boxes as form for as the olypmic and power lifts is of the utmost importance. It doesn’t matter how much you can lift, but if you doing it right. Over my two years of CF I ended up with a dislocated rib and a concussion from bad form and that was even after a year of hard work.

  15. Vanessa says:

My physical abilities have been underestimated by trainers before too. While I get where they might be coming from, it’s also kind of annoying that most women probably get stereotyped into a certain workout type simply because we’re women or have a certain appearance. All the more reason to give 100% and blow their minds.

  16. Kath says:

That’s more of a request than a question.. can you please tell us about your exercise routines ? Are you doing a lots of pilates or other weight workouts? Do you have a routine or are you just do whatever feels good every day? Please please please answer(:

  17. Teresa says:

Great choice of weekend for the popster meet up! I’d say Hyde Park or Regents Park as they are both really central in London

  18. Magda says:

that’s true, I always prefer working out during afternoon 17-20 or morning like you Cassy, but not veyr veyr morning.
For me morning is good for short stretching, yoga or sth just to move my musles and feel better ;D
thanks for answering question from popsters ;3

  19. Asya says:

I wish the meet up was on the 11th or 12th of August, then I’d be able to join

  20. Ashana says:

We should definitely do a August 5th, the parks are always ridiculously crowded on a saturday. Us Londoners are so lazy, the hassle of the tube is less appealing on a sunday! What better way to start the near week than an awesome sunday morning workout?

  21. Eva says:

    OOOOOHH NOOO!!!
Im working on the weekend! Im off the 2nd 3r and 6th Aug.
Maybe you could record and post it? Or do it 3rd Friday afternoon??? Please!

  22. Kasia says:

I start work at 7 AM so morning workouts are a no go for me :p

  23. Kelly says:

I usually workout in the morning, cause I’m sooo a morning person. Which is quite annoying since nobody else is 😀
I workout before breakfast, cause I don’t like working out on a full stomach, so working out on an empty stomach is the only option. Plus if I start my day with a workout, it makes me feel more energetic and it just feels like a good start of the day.

    love

    1. larissa says:

I’m the same! I’ll drink some water first, and maybe a small piece of fruit depending on what I have around/feel Iike. But for the most part, morning jog or other cardio before breakfast, and then I try to do strength stuff after work. But morning is definitely my prime time and I feel a ton better during the day.

  24. celina says:

I like to workout really late at night, that’s when i feel really energetic and pumped to exercise, and to make it fun I’ll make faces while i do my workouts to make myself alive and happy, other times I’ll work out in the middle of the day before the sun starts to set because i get way too tired and dizzy fast when i exercise in the morning.

My question was, what is eating clean? I think you explained it and i kinda feel dumb asking this but what foods would be in that category? Is it just a bunch of vegetables and fruits because since I’m a really picky eater I don’t really like eating vegetables and other healthy food. Do you think V8 is clean and healthy enough to replace those vegetables? Or what would you suggest I eat?

  25. Dawna says:

Don’t give up on cross fit, try it again with a different person, a more intelligent person, then make up your mind. I’ve personally never tried it, but the wrong teacher can sour a good student on an interesting subject very quickly. I know a great girl who loves cross fit and has maintained an amazing body from it, it is just too expensive for me to start right now. That’s why I love your videos! Thanks so much!

  26. Mar says:

Hi Cassey. Could you help in maybe making a post on how to keep motivated? I did three months of P90X but didn’t go further to reach the goals I wanted because I find that I sabotage myself. I don’t have workout buddies or friends that will stick it with me to help in that regard, so when I start a regimen I don’t keep it through 100% – add to that the stress of life (financial, laid off work, etc) it becomes second or third priority.

What can you do when you have only yourself to motivate, but it’s also the same voice that criticizes you?

  27. Really enjoyed both videos! Bummer about Crossfit, weren’t you like “Don’t you know who I am?” 😉

  28. Sarah says:

    Hi Cassey,

Do you eat past 7pm? Also what kinof food is carbs?

    1. Erin Bailey says:

thumbs up ! im dying to know about the whole carb breakdown/ when you should stop eating them at night & also whether or not whole grain / whole wheat/ brown rice is good for your body in small proportions ?!

      Thanks Cassey! 🙂

    2. Roxanne says:

same here! I would really like to know the answer! 🙂

  29. I wouldn’t be offended that he wouldn’t let you take regular classes w/out taking the beginner classes. Because without proper form you could seriously hurt yourself. And we wouldn’t want to see you hurt. Squats, cleans, snatches, etc… not done right – ouch!

  30. Tori says:

Crossfit is totally different than anything in the gym! I think that even though you think like you’ve got it all down, you should at least try going through a beginners class, just so that you can really understand all the movements. Crossfit is definitely form, form, form! I’ve been doing crossfit since May now and I love it! Let me tell you, you want to keel over after every workout, it’s so intense!! Definitely do it when you get back to the states! It’s a totally different experience!
